Chimney fires have been few and far between
until this date, now they seem to be recorded.this entry records
3 chimney fires.
Without the record of incidents they do not reveal the true hazard
to the town and thus the resources needed.
Chimney fires reveal the risk that surrounding structures, such
as the roof space or the structural timbers can be ignited, and
spread to roofs such as thatch.
The examination of the construction is probably more important
than the process of putting the fire out. They are, in any event,
a use of resources that are better saved for more important work.
The transfer of the job to a chimney sweep may have been their
solution
Note that the receipt reveals that the sweep, is in this case,
a fireman (see the attached receipt) and is the proprietor of the
chimney sweeping firm.
